Eat Clean Diet: Hot Lemon Water

I've been drinking this all week and it's hard to say what the effects have been...but I will say I feel better and more energized in the morning. Plus, I LOVVVEE lemons...so I think it's a delicious way to start your morning =)

Cleansing the body should be a ritual and regular process that is done naturally. The Lemon Detox Drink made with fresh lemon juice added to pure water is is one of the most powerful and natural detox methods. There are a number of detox diets that actually do more harm than good. The best way to detox the body of chemicals is by using natural detox methods.  This can be done at home for a the price of a lemon and offers natural and healthy results.

How to make it
Water + Lemon! lol All you need is a glass of pure water and a fresh lemon. Organic lemons are best. Start by adding two to four teaspoons (some people just cannot tolerate the taste of water with a high concentration of lemon) to 8 oz of room temperature filtered water and sip first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Once you get used to the taste add 1 – 2 tablespoons of the juice. Pep it up with a pinch of ginger or cayenne if you like but do not sweeten.
The alkalizing effect
Although lemon juice is acidic it has an alkalizing effect on the body. It is full of alkaline minerals so once the juice is metabolized the acids are quickly broken down and the alkaline minerals are left. When the body is alkaline the cells can detoxify. The body should be slightly alkaline but the usual Western diet of processed and junk foods are very acid forming. These acids are toxins that prevent your body functioning as it should.
Fresh lemon juice (and it must be freshly squeezed) has a negative charge. It is the only citrus juice that does. The negative charge attracts toxins which usually carry a positive charge. I am "recycling" this posty... some of you may remember this post from a long time ago....I found it and wanted to share it again....I think we can all use this sometimes (feel free to pass this on to friends that could use it!

(I took this "big" view from on top of the Empire State Building in New York...sometimes you just need to have "big vision" for your dreams...here's a view to inspire you...)

dream a big dream...
people waste their dreams...by never doing anything to make them happen! Let's be dream makers....not dream wasters!

Just like each person has their own fingerprints and likes and dislikes....you have your own personal dream...and your own one-of-a-kind-talent...no one else will say they same things you will, paint a painting the way you will, sing a song the same way...or even draw out the beauty in someone by doing their make-up, the same way...

Whatever moves you, excited you, whatever you have a "knack" for.....go after it! Go after it, big time! The small details are what will make your big dreams....come true!

And don't listen to the dream-stopper lies that try to prevent your dream from happening...
your never:
*too old, or too young....(The world famous chef Julia Child, didn't start cooking until she was in her 50's)

*not talented enough...(some of the most famous people were told they had no talent! From Frank Sinatra to The Beatles!)

*have no time...(some of the most amazing inventions and books were written when people had to do them at night, because they were busy with work or kids during the day)

*you have lost hope....(whatever is lost can be found.....find your dream and your hope..and work hard to keep it alive...water your dreams & hopes, daily....no one can make them grow except you...and God...but we have to do our part!)

*too fat or thin, not attractive enough.....(Oprah has struggled with her weight, but she became the most powerful women (person) in the media...true talent doesn't have a size or a beauty rating! I've seen some "pretty" people that were the ugliest people I've ever seen, and no one wanted them around!)

*you have kids and don't know how you'll do it....(I know of an actress, that was so desired, the studio paid for her to move to Hollywood, they paid for her house in the Hills, and they paid for her to have a Nanny service at her disposal...a lot of my friends are moms, or single moms...and they have been able to make their dreams come true, with their babies right by their side!)...everyone knows, moms have incredible work ethics, they can multi-task like nobody's business....maybe you can't answer the phone when kids are yelling...but thank goodness for email and texting! ha ha ha ha

I made small decisions to help get my "big dreams" jump started...
*I made the choice to enroll in beauty school (that's all I knew to do at the time)
* I decided I was going to talk to salons and see if I could do make-up for prom
*I made flyers and put them up advertising my make-up services
*I made lil postcards and business cards to give to people, so they knew I was a "make-up artist"
*I made a little portfolio of all my friends I had put make-up on
*I made appointments with all the local photographers and advertising agencies to show them my "portfolio"...and I started getting work!
*I decided I was going to go talk to an award winning make-up artist at a hair show...

and before I knew it....I was walking onto movie sets, into the offices of MTV with my make-up kit to work, and being listed as key make-up for tv shows and commercials...and hiring my own team of make-up artists and hair stylists for jobs!

Each small decision I made, was going to have a huge effect!

(not only does Janice Dickinson, have a bigger than life personality, she coined the bigger-than-average-model term, "supermodel"....this was me and Janice, after I did her make-up)

So today...or even next week...start making tiny decisions to power up your big dreams!!!

Remember, every giant journey...is made up of a bunch of little steps....

Favorite 80s Shows!

I had total flashbacks today to my FAVORITE cartoon when I was younger...JEM!!! And of course I just HAD to have the dolls.
Truly Outrageous! 
These aren't mine, but how fabulously 80s!! 
Plot: The central "secret" of the series is that Jem, lead singer and frontwoman of the rock group Jem and The Holograms, is in fact the alter ego of Jerrica Benton, owner/manager of Starlight Music.[3] Jerrica adopts this persona with the help of a holographic computer, known as Synergy, which was built by Jerrica's father to be "the ultimate audio-visual entertainment synthesizer" and is bequeathed to Jerrica after his passing. Jerrica is then able to command Synergy to project "the Jem hologram" over herself by means of the remote micro projectors in her earrings, thus disguising her features and clothing and enabling her to assume the Jem persona. She does so to acquire money to support Starlight Music and the Starlight Foundation for Girls, a foster program founded by her late mother Jacqui Benton.

Wait...so there was a plot?!? I don't even remember that part! I just remember the big hair, FABULOUS outfits (leggings in all their glory!) and super independent/powerful female characters creating rock star history! 
Oh Jem, why did you have to go away after only 3 short years on the air. We will remember you always!! lol

Fitness Model: Marzia Prince

I found my new inspiration: Marzia Prince. She is uhhhhmazzzzing!! She is a Fitness/Nutrition Expert, Athlete, Model, IFBB Bikini Pro, 2007 Ms Bikini Universe, Writer for Natural Muscle Mag. Vegan/Vegetarian/Raw Foodist.  Um is there anything she can't do??


What are the underlying principles behind your approach to bodybuilding?
There are a few rules I strongly live by. I have created the Marzia Principles. They are 10 principles I live by to keep my healthy lifestyle.
Principle #1: JOURNAL!
Journal everything! From food to workouts to setting goals. You can use a day planner, a journal, or even bodyspace.com.
Principle #2: HAVE A PLAN!
Have a plan. Decide what type of exercise you want to do and the timeframe you’re going to do it in.
Principle #3: SET GOALS!
Goals! Set short goals and long goals. For example, if your long term goal is 20 lbs. 5 lbs. should be your short term goal.

Principle #4: FIND MOTIVATION!
Motivation! Find something that motivates you whether it is a magazine, a picture of yourself, or a family reunion.
Principle #5: EAT MORE!
Eat 5-6 small meals a day spaced 3 hours apart.
Principle #6: VARIETY!
Make sure you have some form of protein, good carbs, and good fats at each meal. For example, a chicken salad with spinach, and olive oil.
Principle #7: STAY HYDRATED!
Drink plenty of water between meals. Sometimes when you are hungry, you are really thirsty.
Principle #8: SUPPLEMENTS!
Take a multivitamin and proper supplements. Sometimes you don’t get that from food alone.
Principle #9: MAXIMIZE RESULTS!
To maximize your results, you need to do a combination of cardio, resistance training, and proper nutrition.
Principle #10: BEWARE OF FACTORY FOOD!
And last but not least, number 10. Stay away from factory food! Chances are if it comes in a box, it probably isn’t good for you!
If you can adhere to these principles, I guarantee you will be in the best shape of your life!


What does your diet look like?

I have adopted a plant based diet a couple of years ago after falling ill from the standard high animal protein competition diet. I had done this for about 5 years and my health was failing due to the lack of nutrients over time. I learned that a competition diet is only for looks, not for health! A competition diet can only be done short term. I learned the hard way. Other people have done this for longer and their bodies can handle it, it took a toll on mine. With that said, this is what my diet looks like now
  • Meal One: 1 scoop vegan protein powder in 1 cup oatmeal with ½ cup of berries
  • Meal Two: 1 Fuji apple and 10 almonds
  • Meal Three: ¾ cup of beans with 1 cup rice mixed together with 2 cups of steamed veggies on the side
  • Meal Four: 1/4 of a med avocado with cups raw veggies (cucumbers, baby tomatoes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and celery)
  • Meal Five: Large salad with every veggie known to man on it. ¾ cup of chickpeas in it. I always use an olive oil and vinegar dressing on it.
  • I drink lots of water throughout the day to keep hydrated and flush toxins.

Turkey Meatloaf

 
 Turkey Meatloaf Recipe

Recipe:
1 1/2 Pounds of Lean Ground Turkey
1/2 c. Chopped Onion
2 tbsp Minced Garlic
1/2 c. Chopped Green Pepper
1/4 tsp Black Pepper
2 Egg Whites Slightly Beaten
2 tsp of Worcestershire Sauce
1/4 c. Chicken or Vegetable Broth
1/2 c. Quick Cooking Oats

Topping:
1/3 c. of Low Carb Ketchup
2 Tbsp. Splenda Brown Sugar
1 Tbsp. of Mustard

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Sauté the onions and peppers until just lightly brown and then add garlic and sauté for 5 minutes more. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Mix all of the meat loaf ingredients plus the onions, peppers and garlic together in large bowl making sure that it is mixed well. Shape mixture into a loaf and place in a baking dish that has been sprayed with non stick cooking spray. Mix the topping ingredients together and spread on top of the loaf.

Bake at 350 for 45 - 50 minutes. Let it cool for 20 minutes before cutting and serving.

Servings: 4 - 6 servings depending

Share Your Dreams! Share your Light!

I recently reconnected with an old friend from High school (thank you Beachbody!) and discovered that we have the same outlook on life. Unfortunately, our views seem to be the minority...but I wanted to share this with everyone because she touched my heart. Start living the life you want NOW...little by little until your big dreams are your reality. Don't be in the minority of people who don't believe their dreams can come true, or even worse...who don't even have dreams!

By sharing your dreams with others, you will see that they start finding ways to help you achieve your goals. And by doing so, they themselves can be inspired to set out on their own dream-laden path! 

Bethany and I shared our Vision Boards with one another and stated our dreams out loud in black and white. There is something about showing someone your goal  that makes it THAT much more important to accomplish it- especially when you KNOW they have your back.

After I sent her mine...this is what she wrote back....

"Thanks so much Kati!  You're such a nice girl.  I'm glad you "get" it.  I really love your stuff too!  And I can absolutely feel your passion for all your goals as well.  And I think that's what it takes; I think that passion and belief and dreaming big is half the battle.  I teach a writing class at CCAC and I always tell my students: 

Quit making writing a hobby.  If you love it, make it your passion.  Be serious.  Don't be afraid or stand in your own way of making dreams a reality.

You're on track, Kati.  Your vision board goals are so doable because you have the drive and smarts.  I feel like it'll only be a matter of time before you're sending me pics from Australia, holding a Koala bear in one arm!  I'm going to save this email so then, when I purchase my house in Hawaii and we're lounging on the beach, we can pull this email thread out and laugh about how all our goals and ambitions came true. :)

I loooooove your visual too!  I went the old school way of actually cutting pics out and pasting them to a show board.  How did you make your board into this cool graphic?  Very very nice!

But I mean, let's think about it Kati.  Some people may look at our lists and be all like, she's aiming too high.  But I don't think that's true at all.  Stephenie Meyer made 87 million in one single year!  JK Rowling is a billionaire.  The P90X guy is a millionaire many times over.  The founder of Beach Body probably has more money than Bill Gates.  (Maybe.)  

But people are achieving these goals.  Why not us????  

It's our turn, Kati!  We're both too passionate and ambitious to settle for less.

I love heading to Farmer’s Markets this time of year and get fresh blueberries and putting them on my oatmeal, cottage cheese, plain yogurt or just eating them out of the container.

A lot of people have been coming to me lately who have either seemed to hit a plateau in their weight loss or they don't know where to even begin.
