Ultimate Reset Day 7

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Day 7! The end of Phase 1! The Reclaim Phase!
I can't believe how quickly it's gone by. Looking back on this past week, I was just reflecting on what I learned about myself and my relationship with food.

#1 I eat a lot of the time because I WANT to...not because I'm actually hungry

#2 I've been eating foods that don't serve me- for example: brown rice makes me feel bloated and totally icky. The next day, I felt like a blimp lol

#3 Since the reset, I've stopped eating and doing a million other things. When it's time to eat, I get off the computer, put the phone away and just FOCUS on my food. Focus on chewing it and enjoying it.

#4 I've decided that I need to make this ice cream and about a million other fun looking dessert recipes!

Tomorrow I start the Release Phase (phase 2). Phase 2 is about cleaning out your colon, so I'm curious to see how I'm going to feel during this next week. The next 2 phases remove all animal proteins and bi-product. No more eggs, meats, dairy, etc. All veggies and grains. Really looking forward to it.

As far as how I feel, I haven't experienced anymore headaches, no stomach issues and I'm NOT tired anymore. YAY! The other positive is that I noticed that I had more energy today than I have had lately. During the Reclaim phase (phase 1), I did experience some emotional struggles and irritability, but that has gone away now…thank goodness. I think everyone can agree that's a mega bonus!

The food!

Breakfast1 cup oatmeal with 1 Tbsp. ground flaxseed, ½ tsp. cinnamon, ½ cup chopped apple, and ½ cup organic plain yogurt (sweetened with maple, honey, or stevia).

Men may have an additional ½ cup of yogurt OR an additional ½ cup of oatmeal OR 2 additional Tbsp. of flaxseed.

Lunch1 serving Zuccini-Cashew SoupMicrogreen Salad, ¼ sliced avocado, and 1 serving dressing of choice fromrecipe guide

Dinner1 serving Baked Tempeh, 1 serving any steamed vegetables, and 1 servingBrown Rice.

Men may have an additional ½ serving of rice OR toss their veggies with 2 tsp. olive oil OR finish the meal with 1 small apple.

Went to fit club tonight just to get out and be social, but didn't workout. It was nice to get out of the house and see friends without being tempted by food!

Ultimate Reset Day 5

Day 5! Easily the WORST DAY of the reset for me. The stomach pain persisted from yesterday and this might sound like me being a ginormous baby...but the pain was so bad that I didn't even want to roll over from by back to my side. The pain took my breath away. Not in a romantic, sweep me off my feet kinda way...more like I felt like I was dying.

Headache, stomach pain. Total hell. I slept or laid in bed most of the day. Probably spent about 15 hours laying down. I spent the rest of my time trying to sit up to work, read or in the bath tub.

Whether you are doing the reset or not, I discovered how much I LOVE Epsom salt baths. Seriously, my skin feels SOOOOO SMOOTH! I ended up taking two baths because THAT is how much I love it. The best part about this stuff...it costs like $1!

Onto more important things...THE FOOD.  I realize that I've said this everyday....but this was the BEST BREAKFAST EVER! It was like dessert and I got to enjoy my beloved oatmeal again. Now when I "cook" my oatmeal, I used rolled oats (not instant! barf) I boil a tiny bit of water and pour that in. I like it super dry and granola-y. Mmmmm!

I mashed it all together! mmmm!
Right after breakfast, I went back to bed to live in misery. I got on the Beachbody Ultimate Reset Support Group and after posting and getting some feedback...I realized that I was RESPONSIBLE for the HORRIBLE stomach pain! Me!!! I did it to MYSELF! Ughhhhh! So please please please take a lesson from my debilitating pain and DRINK YOUR WATER PEOPLE!
Body weight divided by 2 = the amount of ounces you need to drink! MINIMUM!

LUNCH TIME
Quinoa Salad, ⅓ cup hummus, raw vegetable plate (10 baby carrots, 8 to 10 grape tomatoes, 10 slices red bell pepper, and 5 string beans).
Can we just talk about this salt for a second? I love salt and this stuff is the bomb diggity. Seriously salt is the only reason anyone eats pretzels. Salt less pretzels = eating cardboard.
But this ain't your mama's regular white processed table salt that we're all used to. This is Himalayan salt, which is actually good for you because it is packed with trace minerals and is NOT processed or bleached. I strongly encourage you to switch your salt to Himalayan salt. You can find it at a Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and even.....TJ MAXX! I got this one for $5 at TJM because shopping for everything at Whole Foods would require me to take out a second mortgage on my house.
I also discovered I like this liquid aminos stuff that I've never heard of- makes rice taste awesome
Dinner!
By dinner, I was so wiped out that I didn't have the energy to make everything so I just stuck with the stir-fried veggies (delish!) and I used left over Quinoa because I didnt have the energy to spend 50 minutes cooking brown rice lol
Miso Soup, Stir-Fried Veggies, ½ cup cooked brown rice, and Nori Gomasio.

Food
BreakfastLunchDinner
 Cooked Rice Cereal
 Quinoa Salad

1 cup cooked rice cereal (farina) or oatmeal with 3 Tbsp. toasted walnuts, 1 Tbsp. maple syrup, and ½ to ¾ cup fresh fruit.

Men may increase cereal to a total of 1 ⅔ cup OR cook it in 1 cup of skim milk.
Quinoa Salad, ⅓ cup hummus, raw vegetable plate (10 baby carrots, 8 to 10 grape tomatoes, 10 slices red bell pepper, and 5 string beans).Miso SoupStir-Fried Veggies, ½ cup cooked brown rice, and Nori Gomasio

Men may have an additional ½ cup rice.

Ultimate Reset Day 4

Saturday, May 12, 2012

Day 4! Woke up today feeling AMAZING!! Serious amounts of energy and overall feeling pretty kick ass!
Honestly with the way day 1-3 were going, I had my doubts about ever feeling energized lol It's funny how it affects everyone differently because friends of mine are doing and on the SAME day and they haven't felt like me AT ALL! Maybe I'm just full of toxins?? lol
During the program you are supposed to do some stretching and maybe some light exercise. I was totally feeling that today, maybe do a walk on the beach or bust out some Tai Cheng.
Breakfast was phenom! ok yes, I am a fruit LOVER! SO this made my day! Plus!!! We got a piece of toast AND yogurt with maple syrup! SCORE!

Ok this was a LOT of food! I was literally STUFFED after I finished everything. Probably the BEST thing about the reset so far...my taste buds are super sensitive! The berries exploded in my mouth- it was the most delicious and intense flavor Ive ever tasted in my life.
Interestingly enough, I have no been hungry on this reset. I literally have only been eating because I feel obligated to and not because I am hungry. Weird.
I have however been fantasizing about what pizza tastes like. I wish I could remember but I feel like it tastes pretty effin delicious.

***Warning*** This next paragraph might be TMI! So skip it if you have issues with bathroom stuff lol

Sooo since this is a cleanse, I was a little worried that it might keep me in the bathroom a lot. I'm happy to report that I have not experienced any, gas or diarrhea! Yay what a relief! But I have noticed that my bowel movements are a little different than usual.  I hate to be so graphic, but I did say that this I was going to give you a raw overview of my journey, so here it goes.  My waste is different in color from all of the veggies that I am eating.  It also does not have a toxic odor from eating fatty foods, meats, cheeses, "bad" carbs" or even processed foods.  Since I'm eating more veggies and less fat, my BMs sink more often.  (FYI, when your poop floats, it's a sign that you are eating a lot of fat in your diet).  I'm still having at least 1 BM per day, but it's not as much as it was before.  Interesting...

Instead of the Nori Rolls for lunch, I decided to stick with a microgreen salad like I had one day 1. So this is where things went a little a-rye. Mid way through eating the salad, I started to get stomach pain. I felt a lot of discomfort and it was almost like I was gassy?

The feeling never left me all night- very uncomfortable and made me grouchy/pretty unpleasant to be around.

Dinner time came around and the quinoa takes FOREVER to cook when you are hungry so make sure you are looking ahead to make your meals BEFORE you are starving lol
I have to say, this dinner was one of my all time favorites so far. So delicious! At this point, my tummy was hurting so bad that I didn't finish the tomato/cucumber salad and ending up just going and laying in bed.

Beachbody Ultimate Reset Eve

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

Twas the night before the reset...and I can't sleep! It's 4am my time and I'm pretty sure I'm on a Cold Stone Creamery high. Oh course I just had to go for the "Gotta Have it" size!
But let me back track for a moment. For the weeks leading up to this, I've been so good! Slowly adjusting my eating habits and trying out some of the meals in the nutrition guide. I haven't been eating unhealthy at all...but yesterday...something struck me! You would have thought I was NEVER going to be able to eat ice cream or have a cheat meal/snack EVER again haha Sometimes you have to give in to those urges so you don't go insane.

So why do I want to do the Ultimate Reset?

I'm so glad you asked ;) lol Besides the fact that I'm a Beachbody junkie and like to try just about everything they come out with (including Tai Cheng- which is totally not my style but I'm doing it during the reset), I thought....I've NEVER actually reset my body and cleansed it of all of the nasty crap I used to eat. Pizza rolls anyone?
Aside from a 3 day cleanse, I've never actually done anything to truly rid my body of built up toxins. People have been fasting & cleansing seasonally for thousands of years. Guess I never jumped on the bandwagon before I found something that had an actual PLAN! and scientific data to back it up. I need guidelines!! And structure!

Since I'm a procrastinator, of course I waited until the last possible moment to go grocery shopping for supplies. But at least I did it the the DAY before and not the NIGHT before...ahem...Melanie & Mak ;)
Turns out procrastinating PAYS OFF sometimes!

Look who I ran into at the local Whole Foods! Isabelle Daikeler! The Co-Creator of the Ultimate Reset! Ummm how cool is that!?
Note to self, stop leaving the house looking like a bum!!
So here is the deal...she's pretty much AMAZING. The longer I stood there and talked to her, the more enamored with her I became.

She said to HAVE FUN with the cleanse. It's ONLY 21 days so don't have FEAR about doing it! What's the worst that's going to happen? After 21 days you can either change up the way that you eat or go back to your habits but at least you will KNOW what works for you. She follows a vegan diet but was the first to say that it's NOT for everyone. How refreshing! She's a HUGE believer in listening to your body and finding what is best for YOU.

Your body is a machine- a HIGHLY advanced machine and your brain is a computer. A lot of us (myself included) THINK we know what's best for us so we take action without LISTENING to our bodies and responding to what it's telling us. Some of us don't even know how to listen while others flat out ignore our bodies.
I think back to when I was 20 lbs heavier...frustrated and just felt pretty bad about my body. Instead of facing the problem head on, I covered myself up and tried to make the problem go away by putting it out of my mind. I had NO CLUE where to begin and it felt helpless. I didn't know how to listen to my body and quite frankly I didn't want to look at it either. Whether you are 20 lbs overweight or 100lbs, I know how easy it is to disconnect with your body/self and try to pretend the problem away.

I was shocked to learn that we have "two brains" Your brain and your gut. Who knew?! Our bodies are so advanced, we don't usually take the time to reflect on that and get in tune with what we are blessed with.

Get this:
There are a network of neurons lining our guts that is so extensive some scientists have nicknamed it our "second brain".

A deeper understanding of this mass of neural tissue, filled with important neurotransmitters, is revealing that it does much more than merely handle digestion or inflict the occasional nervous pang. The little brain in our innards, in connection with the big one in our skulls, partly determines our mental state and plays key roles in certain diseases throughout the body.
Woah! Really? Your gut can help determine your mental state. Now it's starting to make sense.
The reset goes wayyy beyond just physically cleaning you out. Isabelle said you will also go through an emotional cleansing. Get in touch with those feelings and just be aware. Don't try to figure everything out. Just take note.

That was another huge takeaway I got from the recent personal development seminar I went attended. In any situation, be aware of your feelings. Are you feeling anxious? Why? Are you experiencing fear? anger? Take notice.
Allow yourself to process old emotions and let them go. Get in touch with your body, your mind and your soul.

A few things recommended on the cleanse:

  • Take a warm bath with 1 1/4 cup epsom salts. Relax and enjoy for 20 minutes.
  • End your showers with a blast of cold water which will stimulate full body circulation
  • Treat yourself to a gentle massage
  • Laugh!
  • Spend time in nature- go for a walk in the park/on the beach
  • Seek out media that will inspire you and lift you up (Watch Oprah, check!)
  • Help your skin detox by dry brushing it before you bathe, once or twice a week.
  • Get some sunshine for 15 min a day
  • Think positive thoughts
  • Give thanks. Gratitude is powerful. Recognize the good in your life.

So let's DO THIS! But first...I need to get a couple of things out of the way...

First, let's start with my FINAL intense workout for at least 21 days! Went out with a BANG! We did Insanity at Fit Club =)
Post workout glow
Second, let's enjoy a "Last meal" Since the cleanse is vegan, I thought...why not go for the steak! I'm not typically a red meat eater...but hey, live a lil right?

Third, and MOST importantly, get the BIGGEST and most decadent dessert you can find. Cold Stone Creamery it is!
And you KNOW we all went for the biggest one. I'm not gonna lie- mine was awesome. But by the end I was so stuffed and high on sugar I thought I was gonna hurl lol Sugar COMA!

Here we go.....DAY ONE! Wish me luck!
